New machines have arrived at the Centre

We are delighted to have been featured in a news article by the Basingstoke Gazette concerning our newly-installed power-assisted exercise machines.

You can find the original article here, and we’ve reproduced the text below too should the link ever go offline.

An array of innovative, powered-exercise therapy machines has been installed at a therapy centre.

The state-of-the-art equipment at West Berkshire Therapy Centre, which was funded by a grant from The Berkshire Community Foundation, The Berkshire Nurses and Relief in Sickness Trust, and Tesco Stronger Starts, aims to maintain users' mobility, strength and independence.

Much of the equipment is bespoke and intelligently designed to allow users to utilise as much or as little muscle power as is suitable for their condition.

As fitness levels improve, the machines do less of the work.

Here are some impressions from a handful of the first clients to use the new machines…

“Electronics are clearer, new, footrests are better and comfortable, this machine helps me to strengthen my legs and arms and I can exercise both at the same time. It's stable and strong, I feel safe on it. It's easy, it's fun.”

-Gerry

“It's good to be seated because of my balance issues. The machine is strong and stable, I feel safe, I know I'm not going to fall off.”

-Lisa

“I like that I can use both arms and legs at the same time, I can give it a good strong push and pull. It's stable and I can feel my muscles work.”

-Tony

The West Berkshire Therapy Centre, a community charity in Thatcham, assists individuals affected by a variety of conditions including Parkinson’s, MS, stroke, fibromyalgia, pain, rheumatism, arthritis, cancer, sight loss and post-operative recovery.

The centre caters to clients from North Hampshire, Reading, West Berkshire and further afield.

The individually designed exercise routines aim to improve mobility, reduce pain and promote greater independence.

The centre, which was set up 11 years ago with support from a range of donors, does not have set charges for sessions, instead requesting donations from users.

For additional information about the Therapy Centre, or to arrange a free, no-obligation visit to see both the new and existing equipment, potential clients can email info@westberkshiretherapycentre.org.uk or call 01635 864561.
